Art Basel 2022 will take place again in June, from the 16th to the 19th, in the Swiss city of Basel. Six Brazilian galleries are among the more than 200 international participants of the fair this year, as follows: A Gentil Carioca, Fortes D'Aloia & Gabriel, Galeria Luisa Strina, Gomide & Co, Mendes Wood DM and Nara Roesler.
A Gentil Carioca gallery presents a selection of unpublished works by its artists under the concept of floating. The hanging works invite viewers to contemplate the booth in opposition to gravity. Among the artists present are Agrade Camíz, Aleta Valente, Ana Linnemann, Arjan Martins, Cabelo, Jarbas Lopes, João Modé, José Bento, Laura Lima, Marcela Cantuária, Maria Laet, Maria Nepomuceno, Maxwell Alexandre, Novíssimo Edgar, OPAVIVARÁ!, Renata Lucas, Rodrigo Torres, Vinicius Gerheim and Vivian Caccuri.
Fortes D'Aloia & Gabriel displays a selection of unpublished historical works by some of its represented artists, including well-known names such as Adriana Varejão, Beatriz Milhazes, Ernesto Neto, Erika Verzutti, Iran do Espírito Santo, Janaina Tschäpe, Jac Leirner, Lucia Laguna, Marcia Falcão, Marina Rheingantz, Nuno Ramos, Rivane Neuenschwander, Sheroanawe Hakihiiwe, Valeska Soares and Yuli Yamagata.
Galeria Luisa Strina takes to the main section of the fair a collection of works by Latin American and European artists, especially the Brazilians Tonico Lemos Auad, Panmela Castro, Alexandre da Cunha, Marcius Galan, Fernanda Gomes, Laura Lima, Renata Lucas , Cinthia Marcelle, Marepe, Cildo Meireles, Lygia Pape, Clarissa Tossin and a solo performance by the artist Anna Maria Maiolino in the sector Unlimited.
Meanwhile, the Gomide & Co gallery exhibits works from different periods and contexts of Brazilian art, including artists Luciano Lorenzato, Chico da Silva, Francisco Brennand, Hercules Barsotti, Jaider Esbell, Lenora de Barros, Lygia Clark, Maria Lira Marques, Max Bill, Mira Schendel, Norberto Nicola, among others.
Mendes Wood DM includes a selection of highlights from its program, following the intention of exhibiting international and Brazilian artists in a context conducive to dialogue. Among them are Lucas Arruda, Sonia Gomes, Heidi Bucher, Neïl Beloufa, Paloma Bosquê, Paulo Monteiro, Nina Canell, Michael Dean, Varda Caivano, Mariana Castillo Deball, Guglielmo Castelli, Eleonore Koch, Patricia Leite, Paulo Nazareth, Rosana Paulino, Solange Pessoa, Paulo Nimer Pjota, Maaike Schoorel, Luiz Roque & Erika Verzutti, Amadeo Luciano Lorenzato, Paula Siebra, Marina Perez Simão, Kishio Suga, Rubem Valentim and Alma Allen.
Finally, the Nara Roesler gallery displays a solo performance by Carlito Carvalhosa, an artist who has worked in Brazil since the early 1980s, and whose work is currently on display at the gallery's New York location. The presentation focuses on Carvalhosa's continuous use of reflective surfaces and opaque white materials – from wax to ceramics and plaster.
